The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its estimate of autism prevalence in the United States to 1 in 88 children (1 in 54 boys and 1 in 252 girls). By comparison, this is more children than are affected by diabetes, AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or Down syndrome – combined.*

The new numbers - based on a 2008 snapshot of 14 monitoring sites - represent a 78 percent increase in autism over the previous five years. They represent a ten-fold (1,000 percent) increase in reported prevalence over the last four decades.

Please consider this your personal invitation to join our family in one of the prettiest places in Kankakee County, Cobb Park, located the Riverview Historic district on Sunday, June 17, 2012 for the 17th Annual Kilbride Family Classic 5KRun/2Mile Walk for Autism.

This special Father’s Day event encourages runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to participate with their families. The event also includes a 200 yard dash for children ten years and younger (children receive a shirt and participation medal, and wear #1). These fun runs begin shortly after the last runners and walkers have crossed the finish line.

Pre-registration fee $17 through June 11, 2012 is encouraged. Race fee following June 11th is $22.00. Race Day registration will be available 6:30 a.m. -7:30 a.m.

Pre-registration packets can be picked up on Saturday, June 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at CobbPark. Otherwise, all packets will be available for pick-up on race day.
